Have I Told You Lately

With the ever increasing cost of living everywhere. Kuching is not exempted, comparing Kuching now and Kuching then, I find life in Kuching is more hectic now than Kuching was few years back. Kuching is just like KL now- fast-paced lifestyle and the heavy traffic everywhere.

Mc-ing during the recent teacher's day celebration. Have I told you lately that I'm a teacher now? :))

With the high cost of living in Kuching nowadays, I couldn't refuse when I was offered a part-time teaching job with a good pay from one of the well established tuition schools. That could do great help to supplement my income considering living in this fast-paced lifestyle in Kuching.

The greatest joys of teaching is the difference we are allowed to make in the lives of the students. It makes me want to look forward to teach every weekend (that's more a life for me on the weekends) and perhaps, I will consider teaching full-time next year :)

Cake from a student. And I celebrated my very first teacher's day on 27th May 2010!

To all teachers out there (I know this is a belated wish) HAPPY TEACHERS' DAY! Thank you, Teachers.

Waterfall Garden

The sound of falling water creates an atmosphere of serenity and tranquility, it gives me a feeling like I'm at a peaceful sanctuary.

The waterfall garden is like a place of refuge in a noisy, fast-moving world.... I just love the sound of the running water that reminds me of the natural world that literally brings me back to my senses :)

This is a man-made waterfall with a pool deep enough for a swim. As we are the only guests to the place, it's as if the whole place is ours.

The place, Exotic Tropical Garden or Secret Sanctuary is owned by a friend's friend. It's still in the trial phase.

I'm not too sure about the details of the place but from my observation they do have few types of room available. You can log into their website here to find out on more details.

This is what my two nephews have been up to right from day one we arrived here.... they swim, they swim and they swim again :P

The holidays are finally over. It's time to pack up and head home.

A Walk Through A Coniferous Forest Of Kinabalu

At approximately 5,000 feet above sea level, with its mountain temperate climate, it was chilly most of the time when we stepped outside to the view surrounded by coniferous forest's pine trees that gives a cool walk through the woods nearby the resort.

As we walked to the edge, we immersed ourselves in the spectacular views we don't get to see in the place we live.

Looking over the pine trees and down into the village in the valley. It was awesome during dusk when the sun is about to set :)

Chances are also the early morning mist that hangs heavy in the air creates the misty view of the valley over Kundasang village, can be observed in the morning. I truly love the misty view!

We took a morning stroll through a pine forest stepping on the alpine grass covered with dried pine needles and branches.

As I walked along, I began to ponder upon this place, it's a gift from mother nature. Nearer to home this is where we get to experience four climate zones from rich lowland dipterocarp forest through the montane oak, rhododendron, to the coniferous forests, to the alpine meadow plants, and to the stunted bushes of summit zone.

Pine cones laying on the ground among the pine needles is a rare sight for us back home.

Although Christmas is still a long way to go, but Christmas poinsettia plants are everywhere to be found.

It was such a pleasant morning walk. Really!

Plenty of fresh temperate climate vegetables were such a blessing to us at almost every meal and served to us each time in a huge portion.

Freshly harvested vegetables straight from Kundasang vegetable farms.

Happy Birthday! Another Year Of A BLessed Life

In most Chinese homes, Soh Mien, Mee Shua, 长寿面, longevity noodle symbolizes longevity, is a must-have at every birthday with hard-boiled eggs. When we were younger, my mom used to boil us eggs at each of our birthdays. The birthday person will have 2 eggs first thing in the morning. An egg symbolises 'new life' in Chinese culture. As we age, we still do that practically every birthday.

This is a very sweet gesture! The gorgeous birthday cake. Happy Birthday!!!

Famous for its flavorful blend of Eastern and Western style cuisine's restaurant with its inviting in a very chill out atmosphere, you can always expect a warm welcome here.

So, this post is all about food :) The ever famous fish and chips!

Grilled succulent lamb chop with crispy, browning edges potatoes.

Chicken and pineapples white curry!

Grilled fish fillet.

Skinless, boneless Nestum chicken. He's learned how to appreciate sumptuous food.

And sharing too...

What more could be said, a moment to be treasured and surrounded by close loved ones to celebrate another year of a blessed life. Happy birthday!!!
