Sibu-KK Route Is Maswings' After All...

Thursday, August 13, 2009
Reading the headline on the front page of the Borneo Post this morning, it confirmed my perception that there won't be a win-win situation between MASwings and Airasia over Sibu-KK route as was reported. Sibu-KK route was part of exclusive accord between government and MASwings for RAS (Rural Air Services) which means (If I'm not wrong) Airasia has no right to service for the route in the first place after had surrendered RAS back to MAS and according to the agreement signed between the two, although Airasia started operating the Sibu-KK route in April this year. And as for the RAS, I wonder if they know, Sibu is not rural but a town which is bigger in size than Miri city or any other small cities there is in the country except for, Sibu has less population as required to be elevated to city status. Yet. I bet Tony has never been to Sibu.

Argh! I'd blame Airasia for their attitudes when they were given the choice for RAS but surrendered it back to MAS after 13 months when they realised how unprofitable the routes, showing that Airasia was more business minded or care about money and not giving service when comes to servicing RAS.

Quoting from Business Times: "AirAsia was given the choice to operate in 2006, got more subsidy than MASwings for the same scope of air services, quickly surrendered the RAS back to MAS when they realised how unprofitable the routes were and have now decided they want to cherry pick and operate only on profitable routes," Mohd Salleh said.

That's on the business side, on the other side, the Foochows in Sibu are not happy due to the termination because with the termination of Airasia direct Sibu-KK route definitely also carry the meaning they will no longer able to enjoy Airasia's low fare seat offers flying Sibu-KK where between Airasia and MASwings, the return journey price offered compared to Airasia is in the range of RM150 - RM300 while MASwings is about RM500 (based on price quoted on airasia & maswings) Sibukias flying to KK with Airasia can save a lot on airfare, why are they not angry?

Ok lar, I'm simplistic to gauge the situation and not capable to elaborate more on what's is going on between the two faces on the paper, but I have been following the news since it was first reported early this week. I've a feeling Tony will let go... yeah, he will because it wasn't his in the first place. What more disappointing is going to be, it's disappointing!

Sigh~
