When I was at a friend's cafe for chilling out one night, I was having fried noodles (nyonya style) for dinner. My friend ordered her chicken steak but after more than 30mins, the chicken steak didn't arrive so, we waved at the waitress so we can check on our orders. Instead of coming to us, the waitress instinctively got our message and called 'not ciyet!" out from a distance where she was standing, hearing that my friend giggled and started to relate the incident she had at a school she once taught.
While in a classroom, a new teacher walked in and a student asked her some subject related questions, to that she said, 'not ciyet...!' hearing that the whole class shouted out loudly correcting her, it's 'not yet!'.
It's the Singaporean and Malaysian ahbengish way of saying 'not yet'. The other phase I noticed our young school going students used without realising it's another ahbengish mistake was, 'this is my one' instead of saying it 'this is mine' where the word 'one' was translated directly from the way mandarin is spoken with '的' to indicate something belonging to someone.
