My Nephew's New Pet Turtles

Wednesday, March 4, 2009
We were having our dinner at Taman Kereta seafood center when my nephew saw a group of crabs kept inside a glass aquarium at one of the seafood stalls, he insisted that we bought one live crab home. Although had explained every detail about the consequences that crabs don't survive in the house, he still insist. After our dinner, he walked to the car sobbing he wanted a pet crab.

My 6yo nephew is a little guy who loves being fascinated with anything reptile either read from the books or the ones moving and alive and from the house lizards to tadpoles and snails in the drains. We once passing by a fishmonger selling terrapins by the roadside, he insisted that we stop to buy the terrapins so he can keep them as pets. Of cause we didn't buy the terrapins.

He came home one afternoon bubbly, walked into the house with two domestic baby pet turtles inside a plastic container. Enthused with his new pets, he anticipated in creating a new home for the turtles by placing a stone he carefully picked and some leafs for them to feel at home...

and named them, 'Pei Seh (Shy) Kui' and 'Siong (fierce) Kui' ...

As big as the size of our fifty cents coin. Introducing, Pei Seh Kui and Siong Kui.

Honestly, I don't know which one is which :) but they are full of life and active, moving around in the small plastic container every second and every moment as if they were looking for an opportunity to escape.

My nephew had a cut out of a small picture of a tortoise from a book and stuck it on the side of the plastic container facing inside where the turtles can see. In his sanguine expression he said, 'it's the picture of their mother.' Cute!
